Korean Electronic Site License Initiative

Consortial Abbreviation:
KESLI
Brief Description:

KESLI Consortium started in 1999 as a library consortium for joint buying scholarly e-Journals has grown up to one of the largest consortia around the world in the respect of the number of participant libraries. Currently, 542 libraries including academic, public, research, corporate and medical libraries are members of KESLI Consortium.

KESLI Consortium has been working on as a potential value creator rather than a buying club because we have developed many other programs such as re-education program, librarian exchange program, workshop and seminar programs as well as joint purchasing programs. All of those programs are evaluated to be high quality programs.

We have built an integrated metadata search platform, NDSL (National Discovery for Science Leaders) and provided Korean researchers with metadata of international academic journal papers obtained from publishers participating in KESLI Consortium. Full texts of academic journal articles in printed format are also provided for domestic researchers through DDS.
Though KESLI consortium has been performed successfully through cooperative relationship between content providers and member institutions, KESLI consortium has faced new demands from libraries as the information distribution environment changes. We are trying to satisfy our member libraries and users as follows:

(1) For the purpose of responding the continuous demands on standardized license model, we have been working on developing KESLI standard license model since 2008. Its draft version has been distributed to publishers. Now 16 publishers agreed to use KESLI license instead of the agreement of publishers by the end of this year.

(2) For the purpose of perpetual access and long-term preservation of subscribed licensed materials, we are working on the construction of National Digital Archive system.

(3) For the purpose of providing members with one-stop usage statistics of e-resources portal, we are developing an integrated usage statistics collection system linking to journal metadata. Usage statistics of  more than 400 libraries from 50 publishers will be gathered by web scraping and SUSHI by the end of this year (Currently, usage statistics of 354 libraries from 31 publishers are construced).
